Making woman more visible in the public space Soroptimists from Kassel-Elisabeth-Selbert, Germany
Funding and installation of a statue of Dr. Elisabeth Selbert, one of the mothers of the Basic Law. This project is meant to make woman and their achievements visible in the public space.
Our project involved the creation of a life size statue of our club's namesake Elisabeth Selbert by a local artist. This included the main concerns of our culturally oriented club: to support women and to make their special achievements visible.
A highlight of the project was that the Federal President inaugurated the statue in honor of Elisabeth Selbert's 125th birthday.
Now she stands among us on an equal footing and gets in touch with many passers-by and encourages them to stand up for their beliefs.
The main activities of this project were the financing of the statue and the negotiations with the city to find a suitable public place in Kassel.
